Each day for the past six days I’ve been sharing with you the life-affirming benefits of authenticity. If you’re visiting this site for the first time, you can read the past six blogs simply by scrolling down the page. Today, I’m delighted to summarize the empowering advantages of becoming our most authentic and awesome selves:
DAY 1 – THE TRANSFORMING POWER OF AUTHENTICITY
The premise of authenticity honors us as unique individuals who can create the joy of selfhood as we develop our power to think for ourselves in developing our gifts.
DAY 2 – COMMUNICATION, SELF-EXRESSION, AND AUTHENTICITY
Communication is most effective and empowering when it’s a true expression of our authentic selves.
DAY 3 – AUTHENTICITY HAS VALUE
As unique beings we each have priceless value. As we increase our credibility in becoming more authentic, our uniqueness becomes more rare and more highly valued by others.
DAY 4 – AUTHENTICITY IS GOOD FOR OUR HEALTH
Living as our authentic selves is the most natural and healthy state of being. Many chronic health problems have been linked to stress. We can cultivate a more stress-free life by engaging in the practice of being more honest with ourselves and others, just as we cultivate healthy dietary and exercise habits.
DAY 5 – AUTHENTICITY EMBRACES CREATIVITY
As authentic individuals, we acknowledge that life is change and that we are complex beings. Famous scientist Steven Hawking said, “Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change.” Rather than struggling with the more passive endeavor to find ourselves, we are free to create our best selves to meet each challenge with effectiveness, based on our evolving awareness of who we are at the moment.
DAY 6 – AUTHENTICITY IS LIBERATING
Because the process of becoming authentic is based on personal growth, its focus is on the present, not the past. This frees us from undue worry, regret, and guilt about previous things we’ve said or done, since we now accept that they were learning experiences on our journey to selfhood.
For me, the practice of creating authentic goals, customized to serve my deepest needs and desires, continues to be an awakening to the unexpected pleasures of expressing myself to serve others. In other words, I’m learning to walk my talk. In a word, it rocks!
